Remember the two cute little girls?

Do you rememeber the two cute little girls, I mentioned a couple of months ago? The ones with the two painted sketching journals? The ones that made me broke all my artist's rules? I have blogged about them here.

Just before receiving their sketching journals, their mum had an other fabulus idea. She asked for a journal for each girl, to use as a questions-answer diary. You know, questions that every little girl has, but is afraid/ ashamed/ scared to death, to ask/discuss even with mama. It was the first time I was hearing about anything similar, but as I've  told you before, the girls' mum was something like a kindred mommy spirit. 

Even before starting on the journals, my own little ("not-so-little mum - I am eleven officially") girl, asked for one. I made a quick one for her, and the magic begun to happen. I didn't even know that she had thoughts of this kind at her age. I had thought that perhaps she would ask a couple of questions about boys and she would forget about the whole project. Instead, she begun to write almost daily - most of the times not even questioning - but explaining - her views of the world around her. I was more than impressed.  She is writing long essays and expresses ideas and feelings  (thank God for me and her papa still) that amaze me. She is concerned for her small world of course, but also for local, society and even global issues, while she tries to shape herself to fit her ideas and  perceptions.

Our journal has become something like the pen pal friends we had when we were young, but augmented a million times. She is sure that she can write anything, as the recipient is the person who will never doubt her - her mom.

Anyway, I could continue to write about all this for many hours as I am still stunned, and I suggest you do it with your kids - you will be stunned too. 

The fact is, that this miracle had almost happened when I started with these journals. So instead of making  only what I had described in my listing, I tried to express all my gratitude to this amazing mama and her brilliant ideas. 

The results can be seen in the photos and the videos (Blue journal, pink journal)  . As my daughter said "When I am getting married, you will make a journal just like these for me"

Βιβλία ευχών για διδυμάκια

Σήμερα θα σας δείξω δύο βιβλιαράκια που ταξίδεψαν μέχρι τη Νέα Υόρκη. Είναι για δύο διδυμάκια που γιορτάζουν τα πρώτα τους γενέθλια και η μανούλα τους σκέφτηκε να τους φτιάξει ένα βιβλίο ευχών για το καθένα, για να θυμούνται πάντα την τόσο σημαντική αυτή στιγμή.

Το βιβλίο του μικρούλη Ορέστη που βαπτίστηκε την προηγούμενη Κυριακή. Να ζήσει ο νεοφώτιστος!

Και μια και πιάσαμε τη βιβλιοδεσία για βιβλίο ευχών γάμου, να και μια άλλη δουλειά που έκανα νωρίτερα το καλοκαίρι.

Πώς το θυμήθηκες θα μου πείτε? Χθες που μιλάγαμε με τα κορίτσια για ευχολόγια γάμου, και κάτι ήθελα να δείξω σε σχέση με τη βιβλιοδεσία, ανακάλυψα ότι δεν έχω ανεβάσει κανένα ευχολόγιο γάμου, από όλα αυτά που έχω φτιάξει, οπότε είπα να διορθώσω την παράλειψη!

Η εσωτερική διακόσμηση είναι όλη ανάγλυφη, με θερμή αποτύπωση σε χρυσό.

Αντε και μετά θα πιάσουμε τα βιβλία ευχών βάπτισης, γιατί πολύ σοβαρέψαμε με τους γάμους! LOL

Κάτι σας χρωστάω - μην νομίζετε ότι σας ξέχασα. Τα βιβλιαράκια που φτιάξαμε στο προηγούμενο workshop με japanese stab binding. Πάω σταθερά ενα workshop πίσω μια και σήμερα θα έπρεπε να σας δείχνω art journaling, αλλά ξέρω ότι δεν μου θυμώνετε!

Μόλις διαπίστωσα ότι δεν έχω ανεβάσει ποτέ βιβλίο δεμένο με japanese binding.

Αυτή δεν είναι καινούργια δουλειά, αλλά μια και το Σάββατο έχουμε το workshop σας το ανεβάζω να παίρνετε ιδέες!

Είναι ένα λεύκωμα, που δωρήθηκε σε μια κυρία που παίρνει σύνταξη, από τους συναδέλφους της.

Κορίτσια σας ανεβάζω το πρόγραμμα για τα workshops του Μαίου. Περιμένω εντυπώσεις!

Πρόγραμμα Μαΐου

Σάββατο 5 Μαΐου - Coptic stitch

Θα φτιάξουμε ένα mini book και θα το δέσουμε με Coptic stitch, ώστε να μπορεί να ανοίγει 360 μοίρες και να στέκεται ανοιχτό. Είναι μια μέθοδος βιβλιοδεσίας που δεν χρησιμοποιεί καθόλου κόλλα. Αναπτύχθηκε τον 2^ο αι ΜΧ και χρησιμοποιήθηκε σχεδόν αποκλειστικά μέχρι τον 11^ο αι ΜΧ. Με την μέθοδο αυτή φτιάχνονται καλλιτεχνικά βιβλία, ευχολόγια και journals.

Σάββατο 12 Μαΐου - Mixed media Canvas

Θα φτιάξουμε ένα καδράκι 8 x 8 inches σε 12 layers. Αυτό περιλαμβάνει Gesso, κολάζ, modelling paste, mists, gel mediums, inka-golds, spray paints, stamping and cosmic shimmers, distressing, wax, fixative, varnishes.

Σάββατο 19 Μαίου - Side bound book Japanese Bookbinding

Θα φτιάξουμε ένα βιβλίο που ξεφεύγει από τον Δυτικό τρόπο βιβλιοδεσίας (codex). Γίνεται με μονές σελίδες (όχι διπλωμένες) οπότε πρακτικά μπορούμε να δέσουμε σχεδόν οτιδήποτε σε βιβλίο. Χρησιμοποιείται κατά κόρον για ευχολόγια αλλά και καλλιτεχνικά δεσίματα για mini books κλπ

Σάββατο 26 Μαίου – Distressing .

Θα γνωρίσουμε τα υλικά και θα φτιάξουμε ένα wall decor χρησιμοποιώντας πολλά διαφορετικά είδη υλικών όπως : μελάνια νερού και λαδιού, δύο είδη embossing powder, σφραγίδες, υγρό κερί, liquid pearls, stickles, crackle paints, distress stains.

Σάββατο 2 Ιουνίου – Εισαγωγή στο Art journaling

Art journaling είναι ο μοντέρνος τρόπος να κρατάς ημερολόγιο, να δοκιμάζεις καινούριες τεχνικές, να κολλάς αποκόμματα, να γράφεις τους στόχους ή τα καθημερινά θέματα και άλλα πολλά. Είναι ένα βιβλίο, με λίγα λόγια, που ο καθένας μας χρησιμοποιεί για να φυλάξει τα σημαντικά ή ασήμαντα γεγονότα / σκέψεις της ζωής του. Μπορεί κανείς να το διακοσμήσει με σκίτσα, φωτογραφίες, ζωγραφιές, αποδείξεις, αποκόμματα εφημερίδων ή απλά λέξεις.

Θα δούμε αναλυτικά τι υλικά χρειαζόμαστε και θα τα δοκιμάσουμε στην πράξη, φτιάχνοντας μια ή περισσότερες σελίδες art journaling. Θα μάθουμε βασικές τεχνικές, και θα μιλήσουμε για το πώς μπορούμε να κρατήσουμε ζωντανές τις καθημερινές μας στιγμές.

Οι συμμετέχουσες θα πάρουν ως δώρο από εμένα , τα πρώτα τους vintage ephemera.

Hello neighbours.

Just another book I made for a little boy that was baptized today. It was made as a gift, in order to document his first year ( photos, stories and comments, wishes and blessings etc)

The book is hard-covered. I used Winsor & Newton Smooth Cartridge paper (not so good for watercoloring of course but I like its feeling) and sprayed canvas, stitched together. The designer paper is from a candy I have won and the chipboard letters are from Sfragidomania .

The stamps are the new Bazoo and Woodland creatures and I used my Derwent Inktense pencils for the coloring - my favorite coloring medium ever.

Of course stickles and glossy accents are a must in these projects, so I used them liberally.

As a birthday gift my DH and DD bought from IKEA a set of shallow drawers perfect for a crafter with LOTS of stuff.

Yesterday I finished with one of them, and managed to have many different coloring mediums in a place where I can see them all! Amazing!

It is so convenient and easy-to-find, that I plan to use an other drawer for my sprays and one for my acrylics. I have already placed my wooden stamps in one and my punches in another - all of them were stored in boxes and I admit that there were times that I was bored to bring them out and I was forgetting about of them!

This work is not a new one. It was made for a wedding and a baptism that happened together in Crete at the end of August.

I was a bit troubled, because the event was double (wedding and baptism) with more than 600 guests but the bride did not want double books. After some brainstorming with some scrap-friends, I decided to make a 30x30 book and decorate every other page for the wedding and the mid- pages for the baptism. The title gave me a headache too, as I wanted to have all the names in the cover (of the couple and their boy) somehow related, so I made a visual equation without the symbols (+,=) as my DH said it looked too mathematical.

The choice of colors was the bride's (it seems that every wedding this summer is based on light purple).

Needless to say that the baptism pages soon bacame my favorites, as I could play with funny stamps and my Inktense pencils!

That's all for now- as I am making a new baptism book and some other stuff - but all in due time.

Hello blogers.

One of our best friends got married- at last- with all ceremony, so I had to make their wish book. The bride's choice was ivory and purple and I complemented it with green with this result:

It was the first time I used fabric for the cover, but it was rather easier than I expected. All the inside pages- odd and even- were decorated (after Katerina's advice), stamped and heat embossed.

The wedding took place in a cute little church and the feast after was superb! The decorations matched exactly with the color of the book, which was placed in a large table by the pool.

Σας είχα υποσχεθεί να σας δείξω και το βιβλίο που ταίριαζε με τις πειρατικές προσκλήσεις.

Να το λοιπόν, το βιβλίο ευχών για τη βάπτιση του μικρού Νικόλα. Το άλμπουμ καράβι από τη Σφραγιδομανια, όπως και το όνομα και το κρεμαστό "κάνε μια ευχή". Έφτιαξα και τον πειρατή της πρόσκλησης κρεμαστό σε shrink plastic και έδειξε πολύ ωραία σαν σύνολο.

Το καράβι το έβαψα με την τεχνική faux wood (βλ. distress inks + glimmer mists) . Όλες οι σελίδες είναι διακοσμημένες με ανάλογες σφραγιδουλες, χρωματισμένες με distress inks και water pen. Επίσης τις ψέκασα με glimmer mists για λίγη γυαλάδα.

Για το τραπέζι έκοψα σημαιούλες πειρατικές και με ένα λευκό acrylic glaze ζωγράφισα το ίδιο γελαστό κρανίο που έχει και το εξώφυλλο του βιβλίου. Παρεμπιπτόντως, τρόμαξα να βρω πειρατικό κρανίο που να μην είναι τρομακτικό - αυτό τουλάχιστον γελάει και αντί για σταυρωτά κόκαλα έχει σπαθιά... Ελπίζω να μην το παρακάναμε με το πειρατικό θέμα!

It was a commission on such a short notice. A wish book for a baby boy that is having his first birthday party. The idea behind it was to preserve his grandparents', godfather's and other family member sayings on their own handwriting. It is so moving!

When I talk to my daughter about my own beloved grandmother, I wish I had something like this. Something written from her own hand just for me. I only have a recipe! LOL!

I think that hubby would say that I am being overdramatic.... So, here is the mini:

I used Sliekje stamps, my promarkers and distress inks. Tons of glitter and glossy accents. And of course the binding is by Bind-it-all.
