One of the jobs that I consider tiresome is the construction of invitations. This happens because I can never keep it simple. And of course, using different tecniques is fun when you make the prototype but very boring when you have to repeat it x times. But it happens that sometimes the recipient is worth the effort.

The invitations I will show you were made for a baptism (christening), of a dear baby boy whose parents are close friends. I also made the wish book and the paper part of the decorations but these are an other post.

The theme was pirates, so I had to improvise into something that was of pirate origin but happy enough to fit a cute baby boy.

I used black and white canson paper to cut the invitation in two different sizes in my craft-robo.I distressed the white paper using distress inks and water and finally ironed it flat. I passed the invitation through my printer, stamped the little pirate and the compass , colored them with promarkers and added glitter and glossy accents for a shine. I added a brad to the compass and paper pierced the parrot and glued it with dimentional dots to give a 3D impression. I embossed with antique embossing powder the white poles and then put everything together using Mod Podge.

The "envellope" is made on a similar basis, except that I colored the ship with Derwent Inktense pencils, as the promarkers stain the back side of the paper as well.

Hello everybody! It has been an art journaling week, although I have an other project running that I will show you in due time!

For the whole week I am playing with my paints and colors and I am very happy with the process.

My new journal seems to be exactly the right size for me and is getting fat very fast. Here are some of my pages.

And the following collage is made by my daughter, who sits along with me and learns the principles of art journaling!

As most of my readers already know, my last passion are sprays and paints. I have two art journals and a technique book currently running , but as I have started to experiment with many layers, I needed a heavy journal.

As a faithful shopaholic, I tried to buy one at first. I made my research but came up with nothing. Unbelievable isn't it? Well, I found several, mostly in US, but they were similar to the ones I already own. The ones I really liked were expensive and their transport costs were a laugh( plus that I couldn't find anything else to intrigue me from these shops!!).

The night before the last, after watching some tutorials on You Tube, I decided to give it a try and make my own. I always keep a spare heavy paper pad (300gsm) at home, so I had my pages. For the cover, I recycled a used medical folder, reinforced it with chipboard and covered it with canvas.

And I used my new shimmerz to paint it - yes they arrived already! I am very happy with the result - I even managed a fair stitching! Unfortunately the shimmer does not show in the picture, but my new journal has vivid shiny colors!

And of course I had to make the first page immediately. I used my favorite stamp set from studio 2 mers, washi tape, punched clouds, coloringz and oil pastels. And believe it or not the technique that Kelley showed us (gesso only the middle of the page) is perfect with coloringz (while it does not work nor with color washes neither with glimmer mists).
